The District of Viana do Castelo is composed by numerous companies that are dedicated to the tourist animation and that provide a variety of services. Trekking along wonderful trails, kayaking down the Lima river or Minho river, climbing, canyoning, surfing, sailing, SUP, horse riding or cycling are some examples of what can be found.

At the same time, the urban area provides a variety of leisure and cultural activities. The cultural center of Viana do Castelo, located in the center of the city, is the stage of variety of musical, cultural and sporting shows. The Teatro Municipal Sá de Miranda, one of the most beautiful theaters in the country, has frequently received music, theater, opera, dance and cinema shows.

Going out at night to drink a glass of wine, a beer or any other drink, in Viana do Castelo, may prove to be a real discovery. There are spaces for all styles, and it is certain that no bar closes before two o'clock in the morning.

During the year, Viana do Castelo is presented with various events such as the traditional Festas em Honra e Nossa Senhora da Agonia,  which take place in August - the largest ethnographic festival in the country that received the declaration of interest for tourism in 2013; Neopop, an international electronic music festival that attracts thousands of young people to the city in early August; festival SWR - Barroselas Metalfest, dedicated to Heavy that takes place in April.
